What do you need to make stove top popcorn?
- A Large Pan
- Popcorn Kernels
- Toppings (Optional) I personally love just Louisiana Hot sauce on mine.
Moma Thrift’s Stove Top Popcorn
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels (we prefer white kernels but that’s just us)
- Enough oil to cover the bottom of your pan. Usually, it takes 3 TBS
- **Sometimes I throw in a TBS of Apple Cider Vinegar to make it tangy.
Now I have read that some people heat their oil first on Medium and test it with a couple of kernels before they add the popcorn kernels in and some people add it all at once. I have done both…both ways work just fine. However, I do recommend if using coconut oil that is not yet in liquid form to melt it some first. It takes a few seconds is all. So let’s start from there.
Add coconut oil to the pan and melt on medium heat. Once the pan is coated add popcorn kernels and toss around in the pan to evenly coat the oil on the kernels. Cover pan but leave the lid cracked for steam to escape or you will have soggy popcorn. Now we wait…Once the popcorn starts popping wait until you can count to 2, one Mississippi, 2 Mississippi at this point the popcorn is done. Pour into bowls and top with whatever you would like. I like to toss mine in Louisiana Hot Sauce but you could always use popcorn seasonings.
