Healthy • CHEAP • Non-toxic • EASY • D.I.Y. • Cloth Diaper Friendly
A couple years ago I decided to look into making our Laundry Detergent.
Our daughter Sadie’s skin was covered in Eczema and always sore.
My health was terrible and the more I read about my conditions the more I saw that we needed to eliminate toxic chemicals from our home.
I saw many recipes on Pinterest but the more I looked into them I realized they were also toxic.
They were mostly made to save money. I have found a way to make our own healthy alternative that is also very cheap. Like around 5 cents a load!
The ingredients are very easy to find and this recipe lasts our family (of 6) 4 months easy. That’s doing at least 3 loads a day.
· This recipe is Cloth Diaper Friendly.
· It works in H.E. washers because it is low-sud.
As a mechanic’s wife, I can say that this recipe removes grease! I was very excited when I realized it was removing stains from years ago out of his work clothes.
Recently I have discovered the EWG Guide to Healthy Cleaning. It’s a database that analyzes household cleaners and gives them a grade (A-F) based on ingredients.
The detergent we were using before scored an F!! That made me sick to my stomach and pushed me to study healthy alternatives for our family.
All the ingredients that are in my recipe score an A. Because there are no additives you will not need to use very much at all.
We use 1 tablespoon for small – medium loads and 2 tablespoons for large loads.

We mix all the ingredients in a 5-gallon bucket, I store most of it there.
I add some to a jar to keep it on the washing machine with a tablespoon to measure.
Super simple and super CHEAP.
I paid $21 for the ingredients and it lasted 4 months.
I’m very happy with this detergent and I would love to hear your thoughts about it.
