So I started a blog to try and help as many people as I could from one place.
It was just easier for me to write a quick post to answer more than one person at a time.
I was getting many texts a day with questions I meant to answer and I was failing.
I really wanted to help others out but I just do not have a ton of time.
Being an at-home Moma of 4 I have little and sometimes no time for myself.
I do however get a small amount of time to research on the computer while the baby is napping and the kiddos are working on their schoolwork. So I figured if I spend a couple hours here and there working on a subject I could post a couple times a week and reach more people.
I also get to involve my kiddos this way. They get to help me cook, plan out what projects we want to share and learn more about the health issues we are battling.
I did not expect that I would make money from blogging.
But I did, right off the bat. It was easy and honestly really enjoyable.
I have found that other bloggers are very supportive and always willing to help.
One thing I love about blogging is how you are constantly learning new things.
I am blown away by how much I have learned in the last 6 months.
Blogging is a great way to convey your thoughts, help others, use as a portfolio, or start a business. It is SO EASY to start a blog. Honestly, in about 20 mins or less, you can be up and running.
To start off you need to pick a Niche.
What will your blog be about? What are your skills, your passions?
Some examples would be parenting, cooking, health, music, travel, fashion etc.
Once you have picked a niche the next step is to buy a Domain Name.
Example mine is momathrift.com. I used Bluehost. They made it very easy and I have had no issues with them. Bluehost gives you a FREE domain with the purchase of 12 months or more of web hosting.
Try to pick something catchy but don’t drive yourself crazy. Nicknames can work great.
Click here to go to Bluehost. (This link will open in a new window so you can follow along as you create your new account.)
Select the big green “Get Started Now” button.
Selecting a plan. I recommend registering for the basic plan if you’re just looking to test out the waters or use your blog for hobby purposes. However, if you’re planning on getting serious with blogging, opt for a plus or prime plan as they offer more website space and extra features.
After selecting a plan you will be brought to a page which asks you to enter the domain name you’d like.
Once your domain name has been approved, you’ll then be redirected to the “Create Your Account” section. Simply add your information to the boxes as indicated.
Underneath the ‘package information’ section, you will see where it asks you to select an account plan. You will select which package plan you want to go with. Think about how far in advance you want to pay for your hosting. You’ll notice the longer the term you choose, the lower your monthly payment will be.
Fill out your billing info and check the box below to show you’ve read and agree to Bluehost’s terms.
There are many Platforms you can you use but I strongly suggest WordPress. They have many premade sites for beginners, you can log in and start blogging right away. They also work seamlessly with Bluehost with many perks. WordPress is the tool that will help you create, build, and design your website.
After you get your welcome email from Bluehost, you’ll be able to login to your cPanel at. This is the main hub where you will manage your site.
The first thing to do is to click Install WordPress.
Next, Bluehost will lead you through the installation of WordPress.
Click Continue Installation.
You will now see a drop-down menu on the left that says Domain. You will have the choice of choosing either:
- , or
- (This is the one I chose)
CHOOSE WHERE TO INSTALL WORDPRESS
Enter the website name you decided to go with. The name may already be in the domain field but if not, go ahead and pop it in there yourself.
Bluehost will recommend assistance with your install but it’s seriously so easy. You can totally do this on your own!
Now, you’ll enter your Site Name or Title and your email address.
You’ll also choose your WordPress Admin Username and Password. This is the login info you’ll use each time you log into your website.
Be sure to read and agree to the terms. Then click Next to complete your WordPress installation.
